God's word in today's world

Richest Treasures

Every day we see shiny treasures being advertised on television, on billboards along the road, and in catalogues left in our mail boxes. Shiny, expensive diamonds in rings and necklaces looking so very appealing.

Many people are ready and eager to collect treasures in safes. Women especially love it. It reminds of the time when my wife and I started talking about becoming engaged. Looking for a ring with a good diamond, which, according to the salespeople, was extremely important, convinced my wife that a ring could indeed be a good investment … but let’s rather leave that there, I might end up in trouble again.

Paul knows that we are attracted to treasures. That is why he describes Jesus as the treasure. 2All the richest treasures of wisdom and knowledge are embedded in that mystery and nowhere else.

When you meet Jesus, when you are really led by Him, you possess the greatest treasure you could ever long for. The English Standard Version of the Bible describes that treasure in more detail: 2to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God’s mystery, which is Christ, 3in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

Many, many times I’ve reached cross roads in my life wishing I knew exactly what it was that I had to do! Many, many times I went on my knees, begging God to help me make a decision, because I didn’t know what was the right thing to do. I lacked wisdom and knowledge.

Just look at successful people. They know what to do. they are leaders in their field and they know abut everything. they have so much wisdom and knowledge and with it, they are gathering many treasures for themselves.

The great secret of life here on earth is within everyone’s grasp. The greatest treasure is Jesus and He is ready to move into with everyone who invites Him inside. Of the many treasures that He brings with Him, wisdom and knowledge are the greatest.

Good to know, but immediately I ask myself why I don’t always use the treasures that are at my disposal. I sow destruction in so many places where I don’t use the treasure of Godly wisdom.

The reason is because I don’t give Jesus enough space in my life. In our busy lives we don’t make time to sit at Jesus’ feet and we don’t allow Him to make us aware of the treasures that are inside Him, all of which are at our disposal too.

Do not be misled and do not be attracted to worldly treasures that have no eternal value. Realise what you have in Christ and use the treasures that become part of everyone who believe in Him.

Scripture

Colossians2:2-5

Reflection

Where have you lacked wisdom and knowledge?

Do you know where you can get it?

Do you use it?

Prayer

Lord, You and I know that I need much more guidance from You. I know Jesus has all the wisdom to guide me in the right direction. Please help me to look only to Jesus for treasures. Amen.
