Respect for the Creator
I enjoy visiting the Kruger Park and watching the animals. Although they are on a completely different level than humans, we can learn a lot from them.
We were sitting at a water hole. The elephants were playing quietly. At a distance, a few thirsty zebras were waiting to drink, but did not dare come closer.
The elephants finished drinking and started moving towards the trees. The zebras trotted closer, only to see another herd of elephants on their way to the water hole, and turned right around to again wait their turn.
This process keeps repeating itself. The zebras simply won’t drink with the elephants. It must have been after five groups of elephants that the zebras eventually got a turn at the water trough, before they had to run again as another group of giants approached.
I kept wondering why the zebras didn’t drink with the elephants. I suspect it is out of respect for the elephants who are so much bigger than them. An elephant could probably flatten a zebra with one step.
Out of respect for their size, the zebra waits patiently for the elephant to finish drinking. The respect they have for the elephants has an influence on their behaviour.
It’s the same with humans. When older people approach, we step aside out of respect, so that they can pass. When older people stand behind us in the queue, we let them go ahead of us. We do this out of respect because they’re older than us.
You should have so much more respect for God, because He is so much more than humans. Look at animals again. How awesome are the Creator’s hands that drew and then created each of these animals!
Each has a role in the cycle of the animal kingdom. Each has a role to play to ensure the cycle continues. How much planning this entailed! How much genius it took to keep everything balanced, day after day, year after year?
It could only have been done by an awesome, genius God. And that is just the animal kingdom. How much more is the Creator when we look at humans!
We have to kneel before this Creator God. It is indeed this Creator God who makes us part of His world and invites us into his kingdom. For that, we must overflow with gratitude. For that, we must overflow with respect. We have no choice but to do that.
Let our actions reflect our respect and gratitude for our genius God. Let’s try that with everything we have.
28Do you see what we’ve got? An unshakable kingdom! And do you see how thankful we must be? Not only thankful, but brimming with worship, deeply reverent before God. For God is not an indifferent bystander. 29He’s actively cleaning house, torching all that needs to burn, and he won’t quit until it’s all cleansed. God himself is Fire!
How do you show that you respect God?
Can others see that you respect God?
Where do you have to do things differently out of respect for God?
Heavenly Father, no one is greater than You. Everything and everybody must kneel before You. Please help me to know how to give You the respect You deserve. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
