New courage and strength
I woke up with a bang. It is 2:30. I can’t sleep because the stress is driving me up the wall. My stomach is churning, and my body is covered in cold sweat. I’m having a huge project at hand and the doors are closing one after the other. I’m wondering what God wants me to do.
I’m tossing and turning so badly that the fitted sheet ended on the floor.
I became quiet and opened my Bible randomly in Psalms. I invite you to come and rest with me in Psalm 138. Right in the beginning I find a promise that I grab with both hands. I kneel in worship facing your holy temple and say it again: 2“Thank you!” Thank you for Your love, thank you for Your faithfulness. This is such a simple truth, but we have to drink it in again and tell ourselves over and over again: God loves us immeasurably. He will never leave us. He really cares for us en will do anything for His beloved children.
You can trust God. He loves you too much to allow any problem to crush you.
Believe it. Say it over and over again to yourself. Make it part of who you are. Go live it.
It is exactly the love and care of God that invites me to bring my burden to Him. With longing and tears I can go sit at God’s feet and pour everything, yes everything, out before Him. Listen to this: 3The moment I called out, you stepped in; you made my life large with strength. God will listen to you. The love that God has for us opens up this channel. When love flows, the noise quiets down and God hears our cry for help. It is love that makes it possible that God not only hears, but also acts. God’s emergency plan for our problems then kick into action and … 7When I walk into the thick of trouble, keep me alive in the angry turmoil.
God helps. God cares. God protects. With everything in Him He prevents, yes 7… With one hand strike my foes, With Your other hand save me.
The people with their evil intent that want to get at me, those that are so unfair – God will protect me against them. They will not prevail against me. God Himself will deal with them.
Moreover: 8Finish what you started in me, God. Your love is eternal—don’t quit on me now. Your retirement policy is already prepared by God. It has actually already kicked in, because God cares for you every day. What you need, you will receive from God. He will take care of it.
Isn’t this wonderful news for me and you today? Now we can run into the day and tackle our problems, because we are not alone. We can trust God and know that he struggles together with us every moment with our problems. He cannot leave us alone, because He loves us too much. God will help us. He will put all plans into action. He will guide us to break through. He and His angels will form a front line between us and those who want to break us down.
Believe it. Repeat it to yourself. Make it part of your being. Go live it out.
With the net effect: 3The moment I called out, You stepped in; You made my life large with strength. With new courage and strength you can now tackle life out there, because God, who loves you dearly, is walking with you!
To think about
What mountains lie ahead of you?
Do you talk to God about it?
What must you do?
Father, thank you for Your love. Thank you that I may ask. Thank you that You hear. Thank you for Your help. Thank you for taking care of me. Thank you that I can have courage again and face life with new strength. Amen.
