Love flows from your heart, faith and conscience
Whether it is to show others the error of their ways, and whether it is to show others the way, everything we do must have one objective: Love must be the result. 5The whole point of what we’re urging is simply love—love uncontaminated by self-interest and counterfeit faith, a life open to God. Or as The Living Bible says: 5What I am eager for is that all the Christians there will be filled with love that comes from pure hearts, and that their minds will be clean and their faith strong.
We are surrounded by people who are not going the right way. Some believe in things that will take them in the wrong direction rather than help them. It is our responsibility to help them see the light again. However, this is only possible from one point of departure, namely love. Love is the only way to cross the boundaries of differences between people. Love is the only key that can unlock the gates that keep people from one another. If love does not form the basis, it’s no use.
God’s Word is very clear about the things that promote love:
- Your heart must be pure. You must not try and hide anything. You must not pretend to be better than others. Be honest and sincere. Admit to the one you want to help that you make mistakes too, that you’re only human, a sinful being. Because that is why you can understand. When you want to help others, it helps to first examine yourself and leave your own baggage with God. Be honest about the hurt and the suffering and ask God through his Spirit to help you bear it. Come in all honesty to stand before the person you wish to help with an open heart.
- Your conscience must be clean. We have to make sure our conscience is clean so that love can flow through our actions. We cannot attempt to help others with a hidden agenda. Often people are driven by more personal reasons to help others. Yes, we have our own agenda for helping others so that we can get something out of it.We must make sure that our intentions are pure. We shouldn’t help others to gain something. Certainly that isn’t easy, but to help others, you must be prepared to give whatever the cost. Then love can flow through your actions.
- Thirdly, we must believe and trust. We must trust in God. We cannot do anything on our own. We cannot try and solve problems on our own and think that our strength is good and strong enough to make things work out. No, we need reinforcements.
It is an enormous responsibility to help others. We’ve all been called to do it. We have to do it, but not in our own way. In God’s way. Our hearts must be pure. Our conscience must be clean. And we must believe and trust that Our Father will help.
Let’s try it. Let’s take our job seriously and make sure that love flows from us.
Where are the places where you must go and serve in love?
Is your faith in God genuine and sincere?
Is your conscience clear?
Jesus, I want to love people with a sincere heart, with no ulterior motives. I want a clean conscience before You by living holy, and I want to trust You fully with my whole life. Please help me to do it. I ask this in Your Name. Amen.
