God's word in today's world

Listen!

In the Old Testament God spoke to Moses on the Mount Sinai. It was not a very enjoyable experience for people and animals. They were afraid. After that, God spoke to His people through priests and prophets.

Then Jesus came to earth and what a powerful message of salvation and grace He brought to us people. You can regard it as a declaration of love by God. As one enormous Valentine’s card from Jesus to each person on earth.

But God didn’t stop speaking about it. He gave us His Word, the Bible, so that we can hear exactly what He wants to say to each and every one of us. He probably knew we would struggle a little to hear His whisper, so He made another plan. He sent His Spirit to everyone who believes in Him to act as an amplifier, turning the sound up, so that we can hear exactly what it says in His Word and what He wants to say to each of us.

God doesn’t miss a single detail!

God still speaks today. God speaks through nature. We can get to know Him really well just by looking at His wonderful creation. We can see His will in His creation. But more than that, God also speaks to us through the people around us and also through the things that happen to us. God is speaking all around us.

And still, many say: “Where is God? I ask Him to show me His will, but I hear nothing. Is God on mute? Who silenced God’s voice?” Well, I’ve got news for you: Nobody has silenced God’s voice. God still speaks today.

The cause of God’s “dead line” is not on His side, but on our side. The world is so noisy that we can no longer hear the Amplifier’s voice. And if we no longer make time to read God’s words in His Word, how can we ever hear what He has to say?

In a way, we choose not to hear anymore. It sounds rather bad to say that. But isn’t this what we do if we don’t make an effort to spend time with God? We have turned our backs on God and chose the world and its things.

I don’t want to judge, but maybe we should look back at the roads we’ve taken lately. If you’ve invited God to walk with you all the way and made an effort to hear His voice, I’m very grateful for you.

But if you didn’t do it, God speaks to you from His Word today, and this is not to be taken lightly: 25So don’t turn a deaf ear to these gracious words. If those who ignored earthly warnings didn’t get away with it, what will happen to us if we turn our backs on heavenly warnings?

May this not be true of us. May we make an effort to hear God’s voice. Let’s obey His will and live it wherever we go. Maybe we can make the deaf ones hear God’s voice by doing that.

Scripture
Hebrews 12:25-29

Reflection
Do you still hear God’s voice?
Do you listen to God’s voice?
Do you obey God’s voice?

Prayer
Our Father who are in heaven, I know I don’t always listen. I know I don’t do exactly as You tell me in Your Word and through Your Holy Spirit. Help me to be really quiet so that I can hear Your voice and then go and live in the world the way You want me to. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
