God's word in today's world

Jesus knows

Sandra (not her real name) has been coming to me for support for some time now. Someone warned her that her husband was raping her little girl. It’s a hard battle and even she had to testify.

This week I’ve been under cross-examination for two days about my actions “to steal” my child from the hands of the rapist.

I think this must have been how Jesus must’ve felt in the Garden of Gethsemane. “My Father, if there is any way, get me out of this. But please, not what I want. You, what do you want?”

I cannot even describe how horrible it was. Me, being cross-examined, my actions, deeds and words twisted and questioned!

In that terrible, scary time, I experienced God. I am more and more convinced this is not about me or her, but about the Kingdom.

From all this sadness God will be victorious!

Please keep praying with me. Not what we want, but what God wants …

Eish! I take my hat off to Sandra. She is fighting a war to save her child from evil. I admire her fighting spirit and perseverance. But I admire her faith even more. And in a way she is experiencing what Jesus had suffered.

And this is indeed where we can find immense comfort. Jesus knows exactly what Sandra is suffering now, because He Himself had to go through the valley of death. He was humiliated, spit on, hit, kicked, falsely accused, stabbed with swords, nailed on the cross, and died. And because of this earthly humiliation God raised Him to the highest position in the universe.

9What we do see is Jesus, made “not quite as high as angels,” and then, through the experience of death, crowned so much higher than any angel, with a glory “bright with Eden’s dawn light.”

How wonderful it is to know that the most important Person in the universe had been here on earth to prepare our place in heaven! Do we really understand the immensity of that deed? Do we really know how much mercy we sinners received through that deed?

10 It makes good sense that the God who got everything started and keeps everything going now completes the work by making the Salvation Pioneer perfect through suffering as he leads all these people to glory.

Oh, thank you that Jesus gave his life for us!

Are you, like Sandra, involved in a life-threatening battle? Do you feel overcome? Is it just one enormous struggle every day?

Go to Jesus. He knows exactly what you are going through, not just because He is God, but precisely because He struggled through the same things when He was here on earth.

Scripture
Hebrews 2:9-13

Reflection
What hardship are you struggling with?
How can you take it to Jesus?
Do you believe He understands?

Prayer
Jesus, You are so good to me. You understand my hurt and hardship, because You suffered it too. Please help me sort it out, because I can’t go on. Amen.
