God's word in today's world

God’s promise to you

There was a discussion on radio about wills and when the master of the court would accept or reject a will. A will is accepted even if the testator only made a cross. As long as it is accompanied by a letter from the Commissioner of Oaths who was present and confirmed that the person who had made the cross was the testator.

This means a higher authority had to be present to confirm that things were done correctly and who can attest to this in court afterwards.

When God takes an oath, there is no higher authority than Him. What do you do then? It’s simple. God calls on Himself when He makes an oath. God then promises Himself that the promise that He is making will hold true forever. With respect, when someone then wants to take God to court, God Himself will come and testify about the circumstances in which He had made the oath.

It was a very difficult decision for Abraham to sacrifice his own son. But he was obedient and did what God expected him to do. However, just before Abraham could kill Isaac, God intervened and instructed Abraham to sacrifice the ram caught in a bush close by.

After Abraham had sacrificed the ram, God made an oath to Abraham: “I swear—God’s sure word!—because you have gone through with this, and have not refused to give me your son, your dear, dear son, I’ll bless you—oh, how I’ll bless you! …

This shows how important humankind is to God – God is prepared to pull out all the stops. The author of Hebrews remembers it and reminds his readers: 13-14When God made his promise to Abraham, he backed it to the hilt, putting his own reputation on the line. He said, “I promise that I’ll bless you with everything I have—bless and bless and bless!”

All of us still fall under this oath today. God holds us humans in such high esteem that firstly, He calls Himself to witness this oath, an enormous promise, and to bless everybody.

God blesses me. God blesses you. We all live under God’s promise. God didn’t create us and then forgot about us. He is still involved with His children today. He swore this to us under oath.

If you think that God has forgotten you, you can remind Him of the promise He had made to Abraham and all his descendants. God called Himself as witness and, therefore, you can call on Him if His promises are not being realised in your life.

God wants the best for each of His children, and, therefore, His blessing is on each one of us. Maybe we should cover ourselves in God’s blessing again and allow it to become true. God will help us with this.
