God gives special moments
A friend of mine and his family were visiting the Kruger Park. They were very excited as they told us about all they had seen. Before they had left, each of them has asked the Lord for a special experience with a specific animal. My friend longed to see a ratel, his wife wanted to hear a lion roar, and their daughter wanted to see a leopard.
My friend had visited the Park in the past but has only once seen a ratel. This time he saw two. One day, they were watching a herd of elephants and who walked past, clearly visible? Mr Leopard. His daughter was ecstatic.
One evening everyone was inside the bungalow, except his wife who was sitting outside by the fire. Suddenly there was the thunderous roar of a lion, so close that he thought he needed to go and save his wife, because surely the lion was inside the camp. His wife smiled widely as he told the story.
He ended his Kruger Park stories with: “The Lord is so good”. And I wonder if one can ask the Lord things just like that.
The next day I went looking for material to cover the mattress for the 4×4 trailer I was restoring. It was quite expensive. Then I saw a piece of material that was exactly the same as the material of the old mattress. Chances of finding new similar material to that of a 15-year-old mattress were impossible. Or so I thought.
The owner said it was R90 per meter. But as they took it off the shelf, a R55 per meter tag popped out. They were flabbergasted, because they had replaced the old price tags and made sure all of them were replaced. The saleswoman who cut the material mumbled that she would replace the price tag as soon as she finished cutting our meters.
Driving home, I too said: “The Lord is good!” Like my friend, I experienced it myself. God wants to do good for us. God looks for places where He can make special things happen for us. God also remembers those times we did good. God wants to shower us with His blessings. That’s what He does.
10God doesn’t miss anything. He knows perfectly well all the love you’ve shown him by helping needy Christians, and that you keep at it.
Certainly, we don’t do good to others so that God can be good to us. We do it out of love for God. We do it out of gratitude for everything that God does and has done for us. Doing good to other believers is an automatic outcome when you experience God’s salvation yourself.
However, God doesn’t stop there. God wants to shower us with His grace, not only when we leave this earth, but now as well, while we’re living here on earth. God already wants to give us special experiences right now. God also wants to give us special stuff at special prices. That’s what He does.
Yes, indeed, we don’t do good to earn something. But you may ask God for special moments. God gives them to us. We must keep our eyes open and expect God to bless us.
Do you need special moments?
Can God offer them to you?
Do you believe and live it?
Father, You are a good God. You want the best for your children. I believe that You plan special moments for us every day. Please help me to notice them. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
