God's word in today's world

God chose you

When Shrek needed someone to help, it was the donkey who jumped up and down like a metal spring while shouting, “Pick me! Pick me!” Donkey was so excited to go along, while Shrek just shook his head and said, “OK, Donkey, come along…”

It’s quite the opposite when it comes to God and us. God is the one who is excited to choose us to be His children and we’re the cheeky ones who look away and want to go our own way.

Often, it’s when we pull away that our feet slip and we fall into the mud. We do things that don’t fit us. We do things we know we shouldn’t do, but we do them anyway.

Then we feel bad. When we finally get up out of the mud, our self-esteem somehow gets lost in the mud. Then we don’t feel good, and I think it’s times like this that we struggle to say: “Pick me! Pick me!”

Sin draws a veil between us and God. It makes us hide. It makes us feel like we don’t make it. We know what we should do, but we don’t do it. We know what we shouldn’t do and then we get up and do it!

Fortunately, this is exactly when Jesus’ miracle explodes in our lives. Jesus’ death on the cross and resurrection from the dead paid for our debt. Jesus paid the penalty we must bear.

God does not see us as we see ourselves. You see, Jesus came to take our sins out of the picture. That’s why God sees us as completely worthy. He sees us as brothers and sisters of Jesus. That’s where our worth comes from.

We are part of a special group of people: 9But you are the ones chosen by God chosen to be a holy people. Wow, can you believe it?

You and I aren’t here for no reason. We weren’t made and left to cope on our own. There has always been a plan for our lives. God chose each of us. We are part of His team. We are part of His family. We are part of His special people.

God truly sees us differently. Thank you for Jesus’ part in this. Maybe we should see ourselves that way too. We must see ourselves through the eyes of Jesus. Then we’ll see how worthy we actually are.

Where we wanted to hide from God and didn’t want to look Him in the eye, we can now also like Donkey jump up and shout: “Pick me! Pick me!” If help is needed in your area, you are truly the best candidate, even if it doesn’t always feel like it.

So now go live a life as someone who is part of God’s team, not because you deserved it, but only because of grace, because Jesus came into the picture and made it all possible on the cross.

Scripture
1 Peter 2:9-12

How do you see yourself?
Do you see yourself as God sees you?
Are you playing on God’s team?

Prayer
Father, thank you that I am worthy, just because Jesus died for me on the cross. Help me to see myself as You see me. Help me to play all out on Your team. Amen.
