At university I served on the committee that organised missionary week. Every night during this specific week there was a big event with an international speaker. I was responsible for preparing the lower level of the Student Centre, known as the Neelsie, for the many missionaries to set up exhibitions of their organisations.
Every year we had to choose a theme. A theme that appealed to all and that the speaker could use to lead every believer to discover his or her calling in life. The theme had to be simple and inspiring. When Edison Queiroz from South America was the guest speaker, the theme was: Go!
It’s obvious. We must go and tell the whole world about God’s message of salvation. All got the same command: 11Get the word out. Teach all these things.
It’s not going well out there. People step on other people. They do financial transactions with far-reaching consequences for others. I know a man who was a lecturer at the university and at his retirement he invested all his money with a big company. Those guys were dishonest. That man lost everything and now at his age, he works as a builder to survive. There are thousands of stories like this one.
I wonder what would have happened if someone had told the boss of the insurance company about Jesus’ message of salvation. Would he then have done honest business and, in that way, have prevented thousands of innocent people losing everything?
The world needs Jesus. Everywhere people are caught up in races that will have no good endings. People collide with others. People collide with their dreams, because these dreams are plastic. Look around you. Everywhere you see people stumbling around in the dark. They long for the light – even if they don’t know it.
Every follower is commanded to go! A handful is called to do missionary work in distant countries. The rest of us need to live the message of salvation there where we live, work and play. Listen: live! As the saying goes: Actions speak louder than words.
This simple message is for all of us. We must make a difference. The people around us need this message as much as we do. You go and live the difference. Stand up against injustice. Stand up and point out the devious tricks of big business people. Show people what God is doing in your life, and, if necessary, use words.
Maybe you don’t feel able to spread God’s message of salvation, but you can know that God is only waiting for you to put up your hand. He will enable you. He will create opportunities for you to sow his seed. He will work through his Spirit and make the seed grow.
Unfortunately, I cannot promise that it will always be easy. There are great risks in doing this, but the reward is out of this world!
Do God’s will for your life. Go! Go! There you will find true peace.
Think about this
Are you living within God’s will?
Do others see God in your life?
Where do you have to go and make a difference?
Lord, I hear and I know I have to go and make a difference, but I’m afraid and uncertain. I don’t even know where to start. But I want to do what You are asking me to do. Guide me where You want me to go! Amen.
