God's word in today's world

Do what the coach says: Be wise!

They say you need the right tool for the job. In other words, if you want to do a job right, you need to be clever enough to know which tool or instrument you need to do that specific job. Like using a bucket to carry water: you won’t use a basket to carry water, would you?

To get a broken car running again, you need knowledge. Do you go to a mechanic if something is wrong with your stomach? Certainly not. You go to the doctor, because they know how it should work and can diagnose what is wrong with yours.

Without wisdom and knowledge of something or someone, you cannot have an opinion about it. Do you know that you must first know about Jesus and God before you can choose Them? You can’t choose to believe in someone, can you, without knowing exactly what you’re choosing?

Yet we don’t have all the knowledge when we put up our hand and accept Jesus as our Savior. I suspect we’re caught off guard somewhat at the cross when we realise Jesus died in our place for our many sins.

Learning that we must first confess our sins and then invite Jesus into our changed world is only the beginning of the new way. We still have so much more to learn to stay on the right track.

I suspect the biggest piece of wisdom we need to understand is that our good deeds do not qualify us for heaven. When you don’t know much, you think you do, but as you allow the wisdom to awaken inside you, what you understand about grace is revealed bit by bit, leaving you amazed. This is made possible as we gain knowledge that allows us to transform our minds.

It’s like arriving at a new job. The first month you feel lost and wonder what you’re doing there. Most probably this is because you don’t yet know the new business and all its ins and outs.

But as you get to know more, gain more knowledge about what they do, and learn more about what they expect of you, the uncertainty starts to leave, and you get excited to make your contribution as well.

That is why from the beginning we must look for the bags of wisdom that will help us to walk right through life, to live within the will of God every day. We must fill these wisdom bags so that when we come to a crossroads, we can take the piece of wisdom out of the bag to make the right decision.

When Solomon was given the chance to receive anything in the world, all the money, all the fame, the greatest kingship, anything, he chose one thing only: wisdom. He knew that if you have all wisdom with you, you actually have everything in the world.

We have a coach, Peter, who helps us walk right through the world as Christians. He gives us an exercise programme that we must go through every day. He says: 7-8… With these qualities active and growing in your lives, no grass will grow under your feet, no day will pass without its reward as you mature in your experience of our Master Jesus.

Scripture
2 Peter 1:3-11

Reflection
Where do you need wisdom?
Where can you find it?
Who do you need to share it with?

Prayer
Father, thank you for the wisdom you gave me so that I could choose You. Help me learn more so I can show others too. Amen.
