All his doing
I pity the people who lived on earth before Jesus came. They did not actually have a chance of going to heaven. If they sinned, they had to take the punishment. I suspect I would have missed out on heaven too.
But thank goodness God came with a supernatural, incomprehensible rescue effort. I will never be able to understand how a God could sacrifice his own Son for a bunch of sinners.
One doesn’t just do something. There’s always something that drives you to act. God also doesn’t simply do things without something driving Him to do it. God’s love for human beings, yes, that overflowing love, drove Him to roll out an amazing rescue plan for human sinners. His love drove Him. His love forced Him so that He eventually had no choice but to let Jesus die on a cross.
4But when God, our kind and loving Savior God, stepped in, he saved us from all that. 5It was all his doing; we had nothing to do with it.
That is the best news for any person who realises how filled with sin he or she is! A God who doesn’t just make up stories. A God who just talks and never acts. No, our God gets going. He dreams. He makes plans. He prepares a project plan. And then He goes and executes that plan.
That’s what love does.
His goodness is not just something we’ve heard about, it’s something we’ve seen and personally experienced. And can you see that what we do is totally not part of the picture? What we do actually disqualifies us from being in the picture. What we do goes in the wrong direction, away from God.
But fortunately, God pitied us. He couldn’t stand us dying like flies one after the other and going to hell. He pitied us from the bottom of his heart and rather allowed Jesus to die on the cross.
God couldn’t stop Himself and his love for us keeps on overflowing. If we realise this, it must have an effect on our lives. When we understand what God’s heart and plan and Jesus’ death on the cross mean for each of us, then we also have no choice but to go and live overflowing love out there.
Our love shouldn’t just be words we speak. No, we must start doing like God does. We must dream and draw up plans. We must set up a project plan. We must start doing. We must get dirty and start working in God’s world.
We must make an effort everywhere we go. We must gather our energy and go and sow love.
May the world look different because we purposefully live God’s love.
Does God’s love move you?
Heavenly Father, Your love for us is awesome! You are the greatest, most almighty and loving God ever. You saved my life. That leaves me no choice but to go and live Your love in the world. Let me do it! In Jesus’ Name, amen.
