God's word in today's world

If I should ask you what word, just one single word, had the greatest impact in your life and still has, what would it be? Just think about it for a minute.

Many would probably choose a spiritual word, like salvation, grace, redemption, Jesus, or something like that. Others could choose love, joy, peace, happiness, or something similar. Maybe some would answer honestly money, house, or cars.

For me, that word is alignment. If one could apply this word to all levels of your life, one could get far. And if the things in your life are not in alignment, you could become crooked, which could lead to a real crisis.

In the past, and, unfortunately, still now sometimes, how I spent my time was not in alignment. I spent a lot of time in the factory or on the farm. Even in the ministry, I worked late and the net effect was that family time was stolen. The time was not aligned.

I still struggle to align my eating habits, and the imbalance affects my body.

I see many people whose marriages are out of alignment. One pulls in one direction, and the other in the opposite direction. We are too different and that’s why we each walk our own road. Alignment, alignment, alignment.

I suspect the devil doesn’t tempt some of us to steal something or hurt someone, but rather nudges us to push something slightly out of balance.

You are such a good worker. You want to get to the top. Stay a little later at work. You will be rewarded. And without any fanfare, your relationships start falling apart because your time allocation is not aligned.

Make a bit more money. Then you can have a nice vacation and buy that house or car you always wanted. And with more money – then you can help others even more.

What a lie!

When our finances are not aligned, we easily lose direction. In times of not being aligned we start thinking that money is everything and the source of real joy.

What a lie!

That’s why we must see it for what it is. 10You know that as soon as the sun rises, pouring down its scorching heat, the flower withers. Its petals wilt and, before you know it, that beautiful face is a barren stem.

You see, when you’re with God, you realise what is aligned and what is not. May you make the effort to see. You will see how small we are and everything around you will be in alignment.

James 1:9-11

What is in alignment with you?
What is out of alignment?
Do you spend enough time with God?

Heavenly Father, the world around me confuses me about what being aligned really looks like. Please show me where I should start doing things differently and give me the courage to do it! In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
