The Board

The Lord surrounds Crossroads.247 with giants. With this Board we can weather any storm.

The Board consists of: Annamart Engelbrecht, Kobus Ferreira, Herman Kotze, Jan and Celia Slabbert, Eddie Turner, and Gerjo Ben and Renata van der Merwe.

Here is a little bit more information about each of them:

 

Anna-Mart Engelbrecht


What are you doing at the moment? I lecture and do research at Stellenbosch University.

Who are you married to and children’s names? Natie, 15-year old daughter, Retha

What makes you angry? Dishonesty, people who say they will do something and then don’t do it, injustice.

Where do you live? Kuils River

Where do you get your energy? The be outdoors in nature, horse-riding, lecturing, hiking, being with family, surfing.

How do you spend your free time? By taking my family to a beautiful place, preferrably by the sea oor in the mountains.

What is your passion? To help students achieve their full potential.

What is your calling? To make a difference here where  God has put me.

What makes you feel good? When people reach their full potential, sometimes despite very difficult circumstances.

What exhausts your energy? To mark two hunderd exam papers.

What makes you laugh? Comic situations.

What is your shortest, funniest joke? I really can’t remember jokes.

 

Kobus Ferreira


What are you doing at the moment? Work at Websurf.

Who are you married to and children’s names? Anneke, Walter.

What makes you angry? People who are negative.

Where do you live? Somerset West.

What gives you energy? To help others.

How do you spend your free time? Being with my wife and little boy.

What is your passion? My family.

What is your calling? To listen.

What makes you feel good? A successfully completed programming project.

What exhausts your energy? Negative conversations.

What makes you laugh? People.

What is your shortest, funniest joke? Have forgotten all the ones I know.

 

Herman Kotzé


What are you doing at the moment? I am a doctor at the Stellenbosch Sports Academy (does

sports health and GP work).

Who are you married to and children’s names? Retha (we’ve been together since the end of Matric!) Wilna, Cecile, and Herman.

What makes you angry? People who are long-winded; those who feel nothing for other people; people who are aware of their status.

Where do you live? Stellenbosch.

What gives you energy? Any action, sport, music.

What do you do in your free time? My wife and I like to talk about the events of the day and the children; like to read the newspaper; mad about exercise.

What is your passion? To make my family happy so that one day they can say they have the tools to live life and know Jesus.

What is your calling? To help others – see the grace of God in my life.

What makes you feel good? When I can help others.

What exhausts your energy? Negative people who complain all the time.

What makes you laugh? The small funny things in life – people who drive like mad things on the road.

Jan & Celia Slabbert


What are you doing at the moment? Financial adviser at and MD of NOSTiC Asset Management.

Children? Johan, Jansie, Marietjie and Dorothy (quite busy, hey – Ed.)

Where do you live? Durbanville

What makes you angryBeing dishonest to achieve a goal … at all costs and without takings others’ best interests into account. People who cannot admit their mistakes, or do not want to correct their mistakes themselves.

What gives you energy? To (start) sort(ing) out chaos. To make a new plan or do a new calculation.

What do you do in your free time? Watch sports … over and over again. And even take part in sports myself, but that’s not free time anymore!! To get away to a beautiful place that still looks almost the way that Jesus made it.

What is your passion? To be able to help someone discover the truth.

What is your calling? To discover the truth about the place money has in our world and to tell/teach this to people.

What makes you feel good? To do someone a favour. When I can love someone. When I can make people laugh with a chirp without a sting.

What exhausts your energy? Problems that do not have a quick answer. Human relationships that do not work out. Misunderstandings.

What makes you laugh? Sharp humour. When someone can make magic with wordplay.

What is your shortest, funniest joke? The pilot forgot his microphone was on and said to the co-pilot: “All I need now is a cup of coffee and a cute air hostess!” The air hostess ran quickly to the cockpit to tell the pilot about his microphone. One of the passengers called out: “Miss, you’ve forgotten the coffee!!”

 

Eddie Turner


What are you doing at the moment? I save people taxes.

Who are you married to and children’s names? Annalien; Edward, Beatri, Migael and Annika.

What makes you angry? People.

Where do you stay? Durbanville.

What gives you energy? Good conversation.

What do you do in your free time? Camp, cooking and kuier.

What is your passion? A happy marriage.

What is your calling? To be a good husband to my wife and a good father for my children.

What makes you feel good? When people enjoy the food that I make.

What exhausts your energy? To wait in a long queue.

What makes you laugh? My friend Wynand’s jokes around the camp fire.

What is your shortest, funniest joke? Pietie’s mom has three little boys: Snap, Crackle and …

 

Gerjo Ben &Renata van der Merwe


What are we doing at the moment?vdmerwes1 We are working full-time for Crossroad.

Children’s names? Alet-Mari, Mia and Benno.

What makes you angry? People who trample on others without caring.

Where do you live? Stellenbosch.

What gives you energy? People.

What do you do in your free time? Take the caravan and spend time in nature.

What is your passion? People.

What is your calling? To make a difference right here where I am.

What makes you feel good? When I get something right and people show their gratitude.

What exhausts your energy? Exercise. It doesn’t come naturally!

What makes you laugh? I love listening to jokes and funny stories.

What is your shortest, funniest joke? I can’t remember jokes! Really! 🙂 That’s why I enjoy other people’s jokes so much!
