His love is unending
At 16 years old I joined the then SA Navy. In 1970, I married the most beautiful girl in the Cape. She was 19 years old and I, 23. In 1971, I resigned from the Navy and took my young bride to Natal to make a new start. On our own, away from everything and everybody, and that’s when my wandering from one job to another started.
Well, we tried to start a family too, but nothing happened. Eventually we went to see a doctor, only to find out that the fault lay with me and that I would never be able to conceive children.
Very disappointed and sad we went home. After much agonizing I decided to give her her freedom. She was young and would meet someone else who would be able to give her children. She wanted nothing to do with that and said to me: “I did not marry you for money or children, but because I love you.” We are still married after 47 years, still in love.
In 1974, we adopted our daughter at three months old as our own. Fourteen days later I lost my left leg ± 150 mm below the knee and lost all hope. Who would take care of us? Little knowing that Jesus had taken over. Now everything was going well with us.
Then I resigned from the company where I was working, because they were too overprotective of me. We moved to the Vaaldriehoek to the then Iscor. I easily got a job. That was in 1975.
In 1976, we adopted our son and still all was going well for us. A year and a half later I was promoted to mechanical inspector. Another year and a half later I got promoted to mechanical training officer and after that to senior training officer.
In 1999, I was forced to take a package and again I didn’t know what to do, little knowing that Jesus already had three posts for me, two of which were offered to me and one which I applied for, although I shouldn’t have, because I was nearly locked up. Fortunately, I resigned in time and went back to my previous job where I still am today.
What I did to deserve this, I don’t know. It is grace, only grace. God is great. His love is unending. Even for disabled people like me.
Scripture: Psalm 136:26
26Thank God, who did it all! His love never quits!
